Notes: |
The hail started exactly at noon at our house. I had to leave immediately to make an appointment in Lakewood, leaving my wife at home. The power was out due to an electrical short that had nothing to do with the hail storm, but we did not get our power back until Saturday afternoon, so this report was not made until Sunday afternoon after we had made an almost 300 foot trench between our house and the well head. The new power line is lying in the trench until the electrician is able to complete installation and testing of our new solar electric system.
I left the house a few minutes after noon, with the hail still falling, hurrying to make my appointment, when almost a half a mile from our house I skidded off the road because of 3 inches of slushy hail. Fortunately, I was able to back out of the ditch and continue to my appointment.
I could see black clouds to the southeast over Golden Gate Canyon, so I detoured south and west down Douglas Mountain Drive to Clear Creek and US 6. A decade or more ago I was caught in the beginnings of a flash flood in Golden Gate Canyon, which I rashly, but successfully, raced all the way to Golden. |
