CoCoRaHS Privacy Policy

The nature and use of observational data necessitates that it be associated with location information such as latitude, longitude, and station name. Latitude and longitude are therefore part of each observation and available publicly to users.

The national CoCoRaHS headquarters staff retains a non-public master list of all CoCoRaHS participants compiled from the information submitted on the observer application. As a policy, the names, addresses, and email addresses of CoCoRaHS volunteers are not shared, sold or made public for any reason, with the following exceptions.  We work closely with the National Weather Service (NWS) and some NWS employees have access to this information, but it is not shared in any of NOAA’s centralized databases nor made publicly available. Sharing of this information is to support their mission of protecting life and property. State, regional, and local volunteer coordinators may be provided with access to the participant contact list on an as-needed basis. This list sharing is solely for the purpose of management and operations of the CoCoRaHS network and not for private or commercial use.
