Notes
Still no power, with widespread outages ongoing. Yesterday's severe thunderstorm produced a rare, long-track tornado just 4-5 miles south of this location. At 5:30 pm, we were near the center of rotation on radar. All of the rain fell in just over a half hour and was extremely heavy with a peak rate of 10.87"/hr. washing out gullies on roadsides. High winds (44 mph gust at Chestertown) blew down an apple tree, but we narrowly dodged the main bullet. The tornado crossed central Warren Co. closing several major roads due to massive tree and wire damage: SR28, US9, I87 Northway at exit 24 and CR's 10 & 11. Winds were estimated up to 90 mph in the storm's path as it crossed Lake George just north of Bolton Landing. Some of the worst damage was also caused by microbursts. Further south an 87 mph wind gust hit Glens Falls, setting a NYSM record. All in all, 10 twisters struck central-eastern NY with another in western NH, along with numerous microbursts. This includes the F2 that devastated Rome NY. An unbelievable and historic event. I haven't seen such widespread severe storm and tornado damage since 1998!
