Notes
Yesterday's severe thunderstorm indeed produced a tornado just 5 miles south of us! It was headed NE up Rt. 8 right towards us but luckily for Brant Lake veered right. Extremely heavy rain (nearly all fell in a half hour, with a peak rate of 10.87"/hr) and high winds toppled an apple tree. Wind shifted abruptly from S to NW during the storm and the rotation was obvious from the clouds and on radar. The storm ripped across virtually the entire width of Warren County between 5-6pm, parts of which looked like a war zone with 2 tornadoes and at least 2 microbursts with winds up to 100 mph. It moved across major roads like NY28, US9, I87 at exit 24 (Bolton Landing) and Co. Rts. 10 and 11 with trees and wires completely leveled. Widespread power outage, probably for days. This was the same storm that devastated Rome with an F2 twister and dropped several more tornadoes in the Adirondacks. All in all, there were at least 10 confirmed tornadoes in NY state yesterday. Unbelievable event!!!
