A dry week with an average high of 74.0F and low of 53.2F--ETo 0.54". Ruth Reservoir was at 95% on 6/17 and the Mad River at Arcata was 5.70 feet with a flow of 64.7 cfs, a drop of 23 cfs from last week. The Wiyot Tribe declared a state of emergency on 4 rivers, the Mad, Elk, Eel and Van Duzen, due to the drought and low flows because of its impact on their sacred cultural resources. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission last week said the 4 dams on the Klamath River, owned by PacifiCorp, could be transferred to the Klamath River Renewal Project, which plans to remove them. This will open up 420 miles of spawning habitat. And the California Fish & Game Commission declared the Upper Klamath and Trinity Spring Chinook an endangered species. Grass and weeds under the redwoods still green, and Himalaya blackberries blooming. Birds, butterflies and dragonflies about daily, and bats after the sun goes down.
