Last precipitation was 37 days ago, followed by above average temps, low humidities, and strong winds. Average precipitation for this area for Aug-Oct is about 5.3", and we have received just 1.0". Fire danger remains critically high. We witnessed the Calwood fire explode yesterday afternoon from our deck (32 miles away). Fueled by strong wind gusts, the fire burned about 7,000 acres in its first 8 hours. Our lawn, which was healthy through the end of July (and which we responsibly watered thereafter), is completely dead, dried up, and turned to dirt. There is a constant stream of bird and squirrel activity at the small water dish we put out for them. Bear Creek remains historically low, about 40% lower than the previous low. Another week without an end in sight in the forecast.
