Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: WI-CB-4
Station Name: Portage 5.7 WSW
Report Date: 1/20/2019
Submitted: 1/20/2019 5:55 AM
Scale Bar: Near Normal
Description:
Daytime temps in the 30's and nighttime in the teens and 20's has been friendly for wildlife as we had no snow cover. It also keeps the frost from going deep. Normally January is very cold and below zero. On Friday into Saturday morning we had 4.5" of snow before the temps drop to below zero, with possibly some more snow on the way. The wildfire danger is once again gone and the hay and winter wheat have snow cover to protect them from damage as long as we do get more snow. You could see there was a lot of ponding in fields from our rain/snow from a couple of weeks ago. The snow was a boost for businesses that rely on it for income. Snowmobile and cross country skiing is possible and the local Ski Hills benefit, as it is more appealing to come and ski when it looks like winter. Creeks are flowing normal and the Baraboo River has returned to normal as well.
