Station Name: Roanoke 1.9 SSW
Report Date: 7/15/2025
Submitted: 7/15/2025 8:40 AM
Scale Bar: Near Normal
Description:
Station rainfall of 2.99" at mid-month (Jul 1-15) is now running somewhat above normal (145% of climo), although the regional pattern is quite variable. June rainfall of 2.09" was less than 40 percent of normal but that was preceded by a very wet May (nearly 200 percent of normal), and in turn by a very dry March-April. Year-to-date station precipitation is very close to normal at 22.45" or 102% of normal. The Water year (Oct. 1 to date) deficit is still just over 3 inches or 91% of NOAA normal.

Most hydrologic indicators suggest conditions fairly close to normal. The USGS gage on the Roanoke River at Roanoke 7-day flow as of 7/14/25 was 152 cfs or the 48th percentile of all flows for the date (98% of median). Carvins Cove local water supply reservoir as of 7/15 was at -1.8 feet below full pond (95.4% of capacity) -0.8 ft. decline in the past two weeks. The US Drought Monitor (USDM) valid as of 7/8/25 showed no drought or abnormally dry conditions anywhere in VA or nearby WV and NC.

July temperatures at nearby KROA climate site are running slightly above normal (as of 7/14) at 78.9F or +1.2 from 30-yr mean). Will go with Near Normal Conditions locally due to very recent storms but parts of the upper Roanoke Valley are somewhat dry.
