Fire danger is probably moderate. We didn't hear any of our neighbors playing with fireworks last night, so the locals think it was not safe. The creek is low. Soil is pretty dry for 4 to 6 inches down, and sometimes hard and cracking. Traffic on the lane kicks up dust. No grass to mow, just the blossoms of clover and weeds. Apple trees are loaded, and apples growing. A doe hangs out near, and tolerated me the other morning from perhaps 15 feet from her while I picked wild blackberry and she nipped off the tops of Hypocharis radicata and nipplewort. While flies, ants and fleas have been plentiful, we have not seen the usual great numbers of paper wasps. The creek is low, but the spring flow is normal. Invasive blackberries are heavily loaded and growing long runners already. Picture of Spring Creek looking east from S Mattoon Rd.
