Since last reported on 20 April 2025, have finally received liquid precipitation vs. frozen. Three measurable precipitation events were reported on 24 April 0.01", 25 April 0.02" and 0.10" on the 26th. The last event was a long duration drizzle with dense fog. Topsoil sample taken today under sunny skies and a south breeze indicate a dry surface with moist soil just below. Dug down 3.0" and was able to compact the soil in my hand but the sample did have a tendency to want to crumble. Topsoil under Ponderosas is very moist as the needles captured the drizzle and fog. Looking at the month of April 2025, our station PRISM average for precipitation is 2.1". However, our current monthly April total stands at 0.37". This is way below normal for the long-term. For the short-term, I don't have to water anything right now. All grasses continue to sprout and spread. If we get some substantial rain the next couple of weeks, will probably need to start mowing sometime around mid-May which is about average. With strong winds today, we are under a Red Flag Warning. Although our immediate area is too moist for any concern. With the little precipitation we received this past week, will maintain a Mildly Dry Condition Scale.
