Again, I am covering a two month period: February and March.
February continued to be below normal, but still picked up 86% of the long term average. March experienced above normal precipitation of 172%. Soils are being recharged, rivers are up from recent months, and there was a re-emergent of ephemeral water bodies in agricultural fields and other low lying areas.
Prescribe fires were able to burn a little earlier in the month of February due to lower precipitation for the month and the lack of a snowpack. Fire in March was still possible, but needed to work around the various rain events and high winds.
March rains/snow have had a positive result in allowing emerging wildlife, such as amphibians, from another mild winter to take advantage of the rising water pools.
