Things have changed since we received the past minor rains, but drought is still evident. Late soybeans are showing the effect of the drought….many brown spots with plants with pods that are dry. The later beans are beginning to turn, have pods, but not a bumper crop. Weeds are really still going to town…everyone, even city folk, are complaining. Trees are still green, but few acorns and few hedge balls this year.
Small birds are coming to the feeders for sunflower seeds more than usual…there are fewer wild sunflowers this year. Gardens are showing the effects of the extreme heat…fewer tomato blossoms, and even the okra has slowed down, even more so than normal for this time of the year. Would be interesting to know how far down we’d need to dig to hit moisture.
