Station rainfall at mid-month (April 1-15) was 1.79" or very close to the NOAA normal for the period. March however, was very dry at 1.65" or ~50% of normal. Water year (Oct. 1 to date) deficit at this site remains near 3 inches (-2.96"), or 86% of NOAA normal for the period.
The long-term deficit is still showing up in local streamflows with USGS gage on the Roanoke River at Roanoke where 7-day flow as of 4/14/25 was 279 cfs or the 22nd percentile of all flows for the date (63% of median) with stages falling and in the Below Normal category. This is an improvement from two weeks ago (6th percentile) but still a concern. Carvins Cove local water supply reservoir as of 4/15 was at -0.7 feet below full pond (98.2% capacity) a -0.4 ft. change in the past two weeks.
The US Drought Monitor (USDM) valid as of 4/10/25 continued to show D0 or Abnormally Dry conditions over nearly all of western and central VA. Will keep local Condition in the Mildly Dry category. April temperatures to date (1-15) are running +1.5F with several wide swings. Spring is in full bloom with heavy pollination. My last CM report until end of May so will see how things go.
