Station Name: Durham 4.5 N
Report Date: 9/24/2018
Submitted: 9/24/2018 1:10 PM
Scale Bar: Mildly Wet
Description:
We have had no rain since the remnants of Florence pulled out of our state a week ago. The cooler days and overcast skies have helped to preserve soil moisture. the low wet spot is firm but not dried out. The nuts on the Shagbark Hickory are gone and the leaves are starting to curl and die. Fall is on its way. The Pyracantha berries are 7 mm in diameter and most have turned orange with just a few still green. The first to turn are a deeper orange and 3/4's of them can easily be classified as orange. The Rose bush has but one flower and the rest of about a dozen have wilted. The Crepe Myrtle flowers have wilted and the last one is in a sorry state. The Glossy Abelia are slowly losing their leaves and flowers. It is easy to see to the back of these bushes. The Gardenia has about a 6 flowers on it and some are in the process of wilting. The Holly bush berries are growing a deeper green. Some of the berries are 8 mm in diameter but most are around 7 mm. There are no signs of them turning red. We seem to have Hummingbirds that may not have been here earlier. One in particular has a different stance while feeding; more bent over. She has been here awhile so we don't think she is migrating through. We have not seen a male hummingbird over the past two days.
