Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: CAN-MB-368
Station Name: Whiteshell 1.3 NE
Report Date: 5/25/2022
Submitted: 5/25/2022 9:34 AM
Scale Bar: Severely Wet
Description:
We have had roughly 240 mm or closing in on 10 inches of prec since Apr 1. An unheard of spring, moisture wise. On top of the melting above avg snowpack, this has led to extremely high lake levels and a saturated landscape. West Hawk has reached record heights again (1095.0 ft) and most lakes in this area have similar stories. Much damage has been realized to waterfront assets. To resist damage many of us have weighed down our docks with rock and water barrels to resist damage. Many others either have an impoossible situation or it happened so early in the season that many haven't even been to the lake yet. To our north, the Wpg River has reached crazy heights, evacuating water from a huge drainage area in NW Ont, incl Lake of the Woods, leading to road closures, and damage to waterfront assets and threatening/damaging cottages/businesses. NW Ont has had similar wet conditions. The entire North Whiteshell is closed from hwy 309 intersection to the north park entrance at this time due to flooded highways/roads. Some lakes, like ours (WH) are trying hard to go down, others fairly flat or even still rising. Other then that, things are now greening up fast, biting insects will be on us very soon, as the odd one is showing up now. Spring birds have arrived as usual. The temps have been cooler then normal.
